GATLINBURG, TN – Rocky Top Sports World and the Smoky Mountain Cup have been named one of Sports Destination Management’s 2019 Champions of Economic Impact in Sports Tourism. Rocky Top Sports World chose to nominate Smoky Mountain Cup for this award due to their growing impact each year since 2014 when the event began. In 2019, the Smoky Mountain Cup provided $7.6 million in economic impact for the city of Gatlinburg and Sevier County across its four event dates.
Zach Schrandt and Van Harper, the event owners for Smoky Mountain Cup, have continued to develop their high school based soccer tournaments. The event expanded from three dates in 2018 to four dates in 2019.
“As Sevier County natives, we are exceptionally proud that we have been able to build one of the nation’s premier high school soccer tournament series. Our tournaments generate a significant amount of revenue for local businesses and our soccer community. Since 2014, we have hosted over 350 schools from 16 states, attracting multiple first-time visitors to Gatlinburg and the surrounding area,” commented Smoky Mountain Cup co-founder Schrandt.
The Smoky Mountain Cup dates for 2020 include March 19-22, March 26-29, August 20-23, and August 27-30.
