Smoky Mountain Basketball Tournament Comes to Rocky Top Sports World This Summer

Youth basketball teams from around the country will head to Gatlinburg this July to compete in the Hoopz Showcase Summer Championships. This Smoky Mountain basketball tournament promises to draw great athletes and big crowds. Rocky Top Sports World has put together a quick guide with everything you need to know about this hotly anticipated competition.

When and Where

The Hoopz Showcase Summer Championships will take place on Friday July 22, Saturday July 23, and Sunday July 24. All participating teams must be available to play on Friday. The tournament will be held at Rocky Top Sports World, located at 1870 Sports World Blvd, Gatlinburg, TN 37738.

Tournament Participants

The Hoopz Showcase is open to both boys and girls. Participants must be between 2nd Grade and 11th Grade. Each team can have up to 15 players, and all of the team members must be in the same age group. A maximum of three coaches will be allowed on each team bench.

Five Game Guarantee

A unique feature of this Smoky Mountain basketball tournament is its “Five Game Guarantee”. In some tournaments, teams pay a large upfront fee and end up getting knocked out in the first round. With the Hoopz Showcase, teams always get their money’s worth, because they are guaranteed to play at least five games.

The length of each game in the tournament varies depending on grade level:

  • Grades 9 – 11: two 16 minute halves
  • Grades 6 – 8: two 14 minute halves
  • Grades 2 – 5: two 12 minute halves

There will be a 5 minute warm up period before every game, and a 5 minute break at halftime. If one team leads by 20 or more points, a running clock will start. When the lead shrinks below 15 points, normal rules will resume. Coaches will have two full and two 30 second time outs per game. Overtime is 3 minutes and each team will be given an additional time out for this period.

The entry fee for the Hoopz Showcase Summer Championships is $400 per team. If you have any additional questions about the Hoopz Showcase, you can call George Gray at 931-278-8453 or email him at [email protected].
